Dear Yuletide Writer...

Dear Yuletide Writer,

Hello dear anon! It's lovely to think we share at least one tiny fandom, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what you write. I love all these fandoms, so I'm going to be delighted with whatever you come up with. I wrote a lot here because I like to get a lot of info when I'm writing a gift fic myself. Feel free to ignore everything I've written below if trying to follow it is giving you a headache and writer's block.

General stuff first:

Do-not-wants: noncon, dubcon, explicit het, mpreg, gender-bending, AUs, crossovers, omegaverse, incest, soul-bonding or similar tropes

Things I'm not too keen on, but don't mind reading if you're keen on writing it: hurt/comfort, anything involving supernatural/fantasy elements

References to religion/Christmas are fine and very welcome. Fine to leave them out too, of course.

I also tried to put some info about ease/speed of familiarisation with the different fandoms, in case you end up not wanting to write in what we were matched on.

Aubrey-Maturin Series - Patrick O'Brian

Would be happy with slash (Aubrey/Maturin) or gen.

Would also be happy with fic featuring Diana, Sophie, or any of the other nominated characters.

It's been a while since I read the later books (Thirteen Gun Salute onwards) so if your fic relies heavily on a detail from one of those books, I probably won't get it.

Stuff I particularly enjoy in the books: naval jargon and details, Roman Catholicism, fic set in France, Spain or on board ship, playing music together, history of medicine and surgery, Stephen's background (United Irishmen, 1798, Catalonia, etc.)

How easy would it be to get familiar with this: Not so easy. It's a series of 20 books! I'd be perfectly happy with a fic based on the first book only, but actually a lot of the good stuff is in the later books.

Do-not-wants specific to this fandom: French-bashing; infidelity (i.e. if you go down the slash route, I'd rather it wasn't while Stephen or Jack are married); if you include some non-English languages (I'd love that!) then please don't use machine translation.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World

Would be happy with slash (Aubrey/Maturin) or gen.

Stuff I particularly enjoy in the film: adventure on the high seas, details of naval life, playing music together, Stephen the naturalist

How easy would it be to get familiar with this: It's a fairly recent Hollywood movie

Do-not-wants specific to this fandom: French-bashing; infidelity (there was a hint Jack has a sweetheart back home but I'd rather you leave that out if you go down the slash route)

The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes

For this film, I particularly like the interpretation 'Holmes is gay (though not necessarily in love with Watson) and Watson is straight and oblivious'. Possibly with Holmes/OMC, if you like.

If your interpretation is mild Holmes/Ilse von Hoffmanstal, I'd also be happy to read that.

A gen story in the style of the film would also be great.

I haven't seen the extended version of this film, only the cinema cut, so if your fic relies heavily on a detail from one of the cut scenes, I probably won't get it.

How easy would it be to get familiar with this: It's a Billy Wilder film from 1970, available on youtube.

All Creatures Great and Small

There are a whole host of different stories I'd enjoy in this fandom. James/Tristan is my particular favourite (before Helen is around - no infidelity, please!). I'd enjoy James/Helen too (not explicit, please). A gen story in the light-hearted style of the books/TV series would also be wonderful and very welcome. I just love the personalities of the different characters (including Siegfried, whom I haven't mentioned yet, I know) and I'd like to see them come to life in whatever sort of tale you prefer to write.

Do-not-wants specific to this fandom: anything too dark and out of sync with the light-hearted tone of the series.

How easy would it be to get familiar with this: episodes of the TV series on youtube and it's based on a series of books. One book or a couple of episodes should be enough to give you a good idea of the characters. It's basically just about their daily lives; there aren't really any super-important canon details or plot twists to worry about.
